The White House, Dulcote, Wells

Everyone here at The White House was surprised to receive an email yesterday from our new Miniture Schnauzer puppy. It read “Hello my new family.  I am BOB.  Dont you think I look smart now that I have had a haircut?  I am so looking forward to coming to live with you very soon, in the meantime I will continue to grow, eat and run around the garden causing chaos. Love from BOB”

We just can’t wait to being him home and can’t believe how much he has grown just in one week.

The White House Kitchen Garden

Back in March I began to plan out our kitchen garden and the vegetables are really taking off.  We have a huge range of vegetables growing and so far have been able to pick broad beans, broccolli and spinach.  We have so much spinach I’m beginning to think its vampire spinach – we cut it right back for supper and the next morning its right back, as big as the day before.  So much so the family are rebelling and refusing to it more!  Anyone for spinach???kitchen garden 1kitchen garden 2

The White House Garden and Dinder Open Gardens

Its beautiful here today in Dulcote – hot and sunny with lots of bird song.  The garden continues to amaze me blue flowers frontage– when one lot of blossom fades, another is ready to take its place.  The frontage of the house is covered in lovely blue flowers now and looks gorgeous, and my to do list continues to grow with “must learn the names of all of our plants and shrubbery” now added to the never ending list.  But talking of gardens, its the Dinder Open Gardens this weekend with nine gardens open for public viewing as well as a large wildflower meadow.  All welcome on Sunday afternoon.  I did suggest to Rod we joined in but he has told me I’m not nearly professional enough to compete yet…….

Mary Berry to attend Wells Literature Festival

It has just been announced that Mary Berry will be the star speaker at this years Festival of Literature in October.  It may seem a long way away, but time seems to go so quickly here in Dulcote.  It doesn’t seem five minutes since we moved to The White House from London, and yet we have now been here for 10 months.

But I digress…….

Tickets go on sale on 17th August either online or from the Bishops Palace shop

John Burke’s a-Musings Blog on The White House

My old friend and colleague, John Burke, visited us during the Bank Holiday Weekend.  It was the first time we had seen each other in over 10 years and as you can imagine, the conversation still hadn’t dried up when he left…….

John and his lovely wife, Fran, really enjoyed there stay and took the opportunity to tour the area, including Dulcote itself and Wells.  His views on The White House and surrounding area can be found on his very amusing blog http://bispham2.blogspot.co.uk/

Events over the Bank holiday Weekend

Here at The White House we are looking forward to The Tour of Wessex Cycling Event which takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend.  Starting from Somerton, this is one of the biggest multi stage cyclosportives in the World.  We will be welcoming our maximum number of guests over the bank holiday weekend,  and one of our guests will be taking part in the competition so we all wish her the best of luck

The renovations at The White House took their toll on Mags, our lovely black and white cat. She has been terrified to go outside for months and has needed a lot of love and attention to help her feel safe. It was such a joy this afternoon, not only to see her venture out into the sunshine but to climb the magnolia tree to get a better view of all the exciting sights in the garden. well done MagsMAGS
