Dulcote and Dinder Flower and Produce Show

The White House Bed and Breakfast is looking forward to this years Dulcote and Dinder Flower and Produce Show, scheduled for 5th September.  We missed the event last year as we were starting our renovations to the property but hope to enter in a number of categories this year.  Hopefully our home made Blackberry Jam and Blackberry Liquor will be good enough to meet the competition and the children are planning to enter the home made cake and craft sections.

Just wondering if I dare enter my giant marrow……

The event starts at 2.30pm at Dinder Village Hall with presentation of prizes at 4pm.  I’ll update you with news of our success or dismal failure after the event.

Hope for Justice

We have the privilege to be hosting members of the Hope for Justice team in The Old Barn at the moment, who are exhibiting at Summer 2015 New Wine at the Bath and West Showground.

This fantastic charity is doing superb work to end human trafficking and slavery – find out more about their work and how you can help them at http://hopeforjustice.org/

While showing further guests into their suite in The Loft, these lovely girls arrived back from their day at New Wine and were delighted and surprised to find our new guests were relatives they had not seen in some time.  Neither of the parties had any idea the others were staying.

Snow White and The Huntsman

A few days ago I promised to post some pictures of Snow White and the Huntsman, which is currently filming in Wells, less than a mile from The White House Bed and Breakfast.

Well, the pictures aren’t great, and I didn’t manage to capture the huge encampment at the bottom of Bishops Fields, but here goes….

The place is a hive of activity at the moment, although we haven’t yet managed to see any of the stars of the film

Priddy Folk Festival

Glastonbury may be over but the music continues in Dulcote’s surrounding area with the Priddy Folk Festival on 10th – 12th July.   With a very different look and feel the festival is organised and run by a group of volunteers.  Over the years, it has grown from a fund raiser for the Priddy village hall to a huge fund raiser promoting music and arts and dedicated to improving the environment around Priddy.

Darlek invasion of Wells

After an energetic day in The White House garden yesterday, replenishing all of our pots, I settled down with a cup of coffee to read the Wells Journal.  Imagine my surprise to hear of an imminent invasion of Wells of those old Dr Who adversaries, the Darleks…..  According to the Journal, intergalactic messages have been intercepted, indicating that an army of Daleks, Cybermen, Ice Warriors and Pig Slaves  will invade Wells on Saturday, August 15, in the Market Square at around 11am, and moving onto the Bishop’s Barn at around noon.

Here’s hoping they don’t make it up to Dulcote!

Major Movie to be filmed in Wells

Rumour has it that The Huntsman, a prequel to the 2012 smash Snow White and the Huntsman, will be filmed in Wells in July.  Star gazers could be in for a treat with casting including stars from Mad Max, Fury Road, Hot Fuzz and Avengers.

May be too late already but the Wells Journal is asking for extras…..

The White House Garden and Dinder Open Gardens

Its beautiful here today in Dulcote – hot and sunny with lots of bird song.  The garden continues to amaze me blue flowers frontage– when one lot of blossom fades, another is ready to take its place.  The frontage of the house is covered in lovely blue flowers now and looks gorgeous, and my to do list continues to grow with “must learn the names of all of our plants and shrubbery” now added to the never ending list.  But talking of gardens, its the Dinder Open Gardens this weekend with nine gardens open for public viewing as well as a large wildflower meadow.  All welcome on Sunday afternoon.  I did suggest to Rod we joined in but he has told me I’m not nearly professional enough to compete yet…….

Mary Berry to attend Wells Literature Festival

It has just been announced that Mary Berry will be the star speaker at this years Festival of Literature in October.  It may seem a long way away, but time seems to go so quickly here in Dulcote.  It doesn’t seem five minutes since we moved to The White House from London, and yet we have now been here for 10 months.

But I digress…….

Tickets go on sale on 17th August either online or from the Bishops Palace shop

Events over the Bank holiday Weekend

Here at The White House we are looking forward to The Tour of Wessex Cycling Event which takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend.  Starting from Somerton, this is one of the biggest multi stage cyclosportives in the World.  We will be welcoming our maximum number of guests over the bank holiday weekend,  and one of our guests will be taking part in the competition so we all wish her the best of luck
