Over the weekend we had to laugh when we saw a news bulletin on the BBC website with the headline “German police save man from baby squirrel terror”

Apparently they arrived after the guy called for help and when they arrived the squirrel was still terrorising the caller.

The squirrel was taken into custody after it abruptly fell asleep……….

Apparently Squirrels are known to chase after human beings when in need of food or help (as Rod can testify following his experience a few years go fending off a squirrel trying to grab a fresh loaf of sourdough from him in Kensington Gardens – true, I promise….)

Starting today and going on until Sunday at Ashton Court Estate, Long Ashton, Bristol is the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

The event is free to attend and is the largest annual meeting of hot air balloons, attracting over 130 Hot Air Balloons from across the globe.

We went four years ago as a family and had a really good time, so fingers crossed the day is still and calm so everyone can enjoy the balloons!

Each year I plant fewer courgettes determined to eat them all while they are small.  Looks like I failed again

I have so many enormous ones they couldn’t all fit into one shot…..

A few weeks ago I shared information about Somerset’s first food trail event which will take place from Friday 20th July – Sunday 29th July.  The event “Taste the Landscape” will be focused on dozens of food producers opening their doors to the public.

It celebrates the best of locally produced food, showcasing farmers and producers as well as retailers, cafes pubs and restaurants and participants range from goat herders, cider makers, dairy farmers, cheese makers, pubs, vineyards, artisan bakers and vegetable growers.

Doors will be opened at set times during the ten day period with special menus offered by pubs, cafes and restaurants to feature locally sourced food.  In addition there will be activities including picnics, pizza making, vineyard and mill tours.

This weekend the Godney Gathering is on again at Garslade Farm in Glastonbury.  Beginning on 21st July the line up includes Feeder, The Corresponents;  Tankus the Henge; The Leylines and many others

Unfortunately the event is now sold out but if you did manage to get tickets, enjoy!

Yesterday, the Wells Boules Tournament took place and this year we unfortunately didn’t manage to get down to support it.

The event is huge, with local families and friends, businesses, Rotarians and Boules enthusiasts making up forty-eight teams, who play throughout the day from 9.30am, with the final at 5pm.

The area outside Wells Town Hall is transformed into Boules Pistes, complete with bar, al fresco buffet lunch and jazz band to provide the background music and it really is good fun.

Its the end of another school year this weekend which not only means the start of the main holiday season here in Wells but also, sadly, the end of lunchtime concerts performed by the many talented musicians at Wells Cathedral School.

There are still many music events happening over the summer and this Saturday, Melody Makers of Bath Abbey are performing at the Cathedral between 13:05 and 13:45 and if you arrive early, you can also have the delight of seeing the Aldbury Morris Men dancing between 10:00 and 11:00 outside the West Front of the Cathedral.
