It may seem very early but…….
Wells Christmas Market will be returning this year from Wednesday, December 19, until Saturday, December 22,and it is hoped that more than 100 traders will take part.
Bigger and better than last year, we will release further news as we find out
Following the superb “Sixteen” concert at the Cathedral on Friday evening, I’ve been looking for other opportunities to immerse myself in music over the coming weeks and the choice is enormous.
From lunchtime organ recitals, Tibet and Mongolian music through to French Baroque and Ceilidhs, there is something for everyone
Take a look at http://visitwellssomerset.co.uk/whats-on to view the full range of opportunities available and if you do see something of interest, we hope to see you here at The White House.
The fantastic programme of music at Wels Cathedral kicks off this weekend with the annual “Sixteen” Concert which will take place on Friday 7th at 19:30
“Sixteen” are a UK based choir and period instrument orchestra; founded by Harry Christophers, which started as an unnamed group of sixteen friends and they have gained hugely in popularity since this time.
They perform early English polyphony, works of the Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical music, and a diversity of 20th-century music and this year their performance will focus on The Choral Pilgrimage 2018 – works by Cornysh and Britten.
To find out more, or to purchase tickets, visit http://visitwellssomerset.co.uk/whats-on/sixteen-concert and hopefully we will see you there.
The long hot days of the summer holidays may now be over but there is still many reasons why a visit to Somerset should still be on your agenda.
I’ll be blogging about all of the up coming events in and around Wells over the coming weeks but at the weekend we decided to try a cider tour.
It was the first time we had actually done this (a crime I know as we have now been here in Dulcote for four years) but on Saturday we visited the Somerset Cider Brandy Company & Burrow Hill Cider at Kingsbury Episcopi, Martock. The tour (and Julian, the owner of the farm) were a bit off the wall but they were extremely generous with their samples and the orchards and surrounding countryside were stunning. The farm not only specialises in cider making but also distil and we came home laden with bottles of their Ice Cider, Cider Brandy (also offered on the menu at the recent royal wedding), and Pomona. I can’t recommend these enough ……
You can follow the link below to choose a tour of the many farms surrounding us here at The White House and we look forward to seeing you soon!

The vegetable garden is looking really good at the moment and we’re beginning to harvest beans, sweetcorn and tomatoes. Courgettes turned into marrows long ago and the butternut squash are maturing nicely. First batch of plum jam now made and over the weekend I will be foraging the damson trees I found last week to make more jam. Its a good life….
So.…
I thought my vine at the back of The Old Barn didn’t have anything on it and when I looked closer yesterday I found all of these bunches hiding under the foliage.
They taste really sweet but have lots of little pips so I decided to make some grape juice
It’s the most delicious thing I ever made. Cold from the fridge, non alcoholic and absolute nectar. I got seven pints altogether and think I’ve already swallowed two of them!
